Cazoo expands presence in Germany with Alba Berlin deal

ALBA BERLIN and Cazoo have signed a multi-year agreement, that will see Europe’s leading online used car retailer, which makes buying and selling a car as simple and seamless as ordering any other product online, become a main partner and the new shirt sponsor of the Basketball Bundesliga team.

From the start of next season, Cazoo branding will be seen on the front of the shirts of the ALBA BERLIN professional men’s team as well as the male Youth Academy teams, on and around the court during Bundesliga and EuroLeague home games, on the Pro Team bus, across the club’s website and on all media backdrops featured on televised basketball coverage.

This deal forms part of a wider marketing campaign and comes after the launch of Cazoo in Germany at the end of last year. ALBA BERLIN will be the second sports sponsorship for Cazoo in Germany who recently announced the sponsorship of SC Freiburg and adds to a number of other high-profile sports sponsorships for Cazoo across the UK and Europe.

Cazoo was founded in 2018 by renowned British entrepreneur Alex Chesterman and has already sold over 70,000 cars in the UK since its launch just over two years ago as consumers have embraced the selection, value, transparency and convenience of buying and selling used cars fully online. Cazoo launched in France and Germany in December last year, in Spain this month and has plans to launch in Italy later this year.

Cazoo has been one of the fastest growing businesses in Europe over the past few years, pioneering the shift to online car buying and selling across the UK and key markets in mainland Europe.

Alex Chesterman, Founder & CEO of Cazoo, said: “We are very excited to be partnering with ALBA BERLIN. As one of the most successful German basketball clubs, the drive to succeed is inherent in ALBA BERLIN like it is in us. We look forward to working with the club and the local community and to delivering the best car buying experience to their fans and consumers across Germany.”

Marco Baldi, CEO of ALBA BERLIN, said: “Being Germany’s biggest Basketball Club we play in national and Europe-wide competitions. Cazoo wants to conquer the European market with their innovative e-commerce concept and we’re excited to help them. The fact that Cazoo will not only support our men’s pro team but also our Youth Academy teams expresses our new partner’s appreciation for our sustainable idea of grassroots work in sports education.”
