The International Boxing Association (IBA) hosted its Sport + Business Forum in Istanbul, bringing together leaders from sport, business, and culture to discuss the future of boxing and its place in society.
IBA President Umar Kremlev opened the forum with a call to keep sport above politics and focused on opportunity, fairness, and development. “Sport has always been a peacekeeper, and so it should stay. Our task is not only to organise advanced events but to ensure that every young athlete has a pathway,” he said.
Among the key speakers was Donald Trump Jr., Executive Vice-President of The Trump Organization, who reflected on boxing’s values of respect and discipline. “Even after the most brutal fight, two opponents come together with deep respect – that is the best of people. Fairness in sport matters, and giving young people opportunities through boxing is extraordinary,” he noted.
Rasheda Ali Walsh, daughter of Muhammad Ali, highlighted the legacy of her father and the role of boxing as a platform for peace and dignity. “Greatness is not just measured by titles, but by the impact we leave on humanity,” she said.
Manny Pacquiao, eight-division world champion, underlined the importance of grassroots support. Sharing his own story of rejection at the amateur level, he said: “Supporting grassroots boxing is essential. IBA is doing that, and my League of Destiny project will work alongside these efforts to create a legacy for the next generation.”
The forum also saw Kaan Karakaya appointed as the official IBA Representative in Türkiye. Accepting the role, he said: “Under President Kremlev’s leadership, IBA has become more than an International Federation – it has become a global home of boxing.”
The discussions in Istanbul focused on aligning business with values, supporting grassroots development, and ensuring fairness in sport. The upcoming IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Dubai will be the next major milestone for the organisation.
