McLaren Racing continues data analytics collaboration with Deloitte

McLaren Racing have signed a continuation of its collaboration with Deloitte on and off the race track in a multi-year agreement, starting from the resumption of the 2020 Formula 1 season.

Deloitte will be working with McLaren to enhance the performance of the team and its race cars. The firm will be working closely with the team to apply digital twin simulation to their processes, improve speed and ensure precision during races.

Deloitte has a strong legacy in developing data-driven solutions to support strategy and operational decision-making for clients in multiple industries. The firm’s simulation practice will act as an extension to the team’s strategy unit, drawing on more than 50 years of McLaren history in motorsport and more than 30 years leading in digital transformation.

McLaren Racing and Deloitte will also work together to identify how advanced analytic technologies, relied on in motorsport to perfect track performance, can be used to solve some of businesses’ most crucial challenges, including those in the offices, factories and boardrooms of other competitive industries.

Mark Waller, Managing Director, Sales and Marketing, McLaren Racing said: “It is fantastic to continue to collaborate with Deloitte to improve race strategy and optimise our performance on track. There is huge opportunity to apply the technology our team has spent many years developing for success in motorsport to different industries and I look forward to us working together to unlock this potential.”

Jason Gordon, Partner, Deloitte, said:“The success of the world’s leading motorsport teams depends upon precision and accuracy; a fraction of a second or a single misunderstanding can make all the difference in a race. Working with McLaren Racing to capture and analyse data throughout a season, we can model races to predict how they might play out identifying the small improvements that can be made in advance to optimise performance on the track.

“The same school of thought can be applied to business performance, and we look forward to working closely with McLaren Racing to identify methods that can fine-tune business’ operations. This will include using simulation technology to determine the changes that could lead to huge gains in productivity and efficiency.”
